CONFERENCES
One of the major activities of ALEA is the provision of high quality conferences at national and state level throughout the country. These conferences are planned and run primarily by members working in a voluntary capacity. Committee members are mostly practising teachers reflecting the desire to ensure that conferences are planned by teachers for all those interested in education.
ALEA has an annual national conference which is normally located in a capital city, which is chosen in systematic way so that it moves around the states and territories of Australia. These conferences are always well attended, and attract from 600 to 1500 participants. The programs feature internationally known literacy educators as well as Australian teachers, educators, researchers, and publishers. Most States also have their own conferences on an annual basis.
ALEA provides support to other conferences on literacy.
