ALEA provides:
  • Professional development for teachers at all levels, through activities organised by ALEA Local Councils throughout Australia

  • The latest information on developments in language and learning through ALEA Publications

  • Opportunities to attend state and national conferences each year

  • opportunities to meet with educators, authors and illustrators.

Membership of Alea
ALEA membership is current for twelve months from the time of joining.
Members receive three mail outs per year.

Mail outs include:

  • Issue of the Australian Journal of Language and Literacy

  • Issue of ALEA Today

  • Issue of Practically Primary and/or issue of Literacy Learning : The Middle Years

  • Information about National, State and Local Conferences
  • Occasional free samples of books, magnets, stickers and promotional items.

Other membership benefits include:
  • Discounts on registration fees at National, State and Local conferences

  • Networking through automatic membership of the nearest Local Council of ALEA

  • Members receive an ALEA membership card, with their membership number

Renewal notices are mailed to members in the month before their membership expires.

AdvocacyThe Australian Literacy Educator's Association provides a major advocacy role in relation to significant literacy issues. Its members participate in local, state and national forums concerning literacy; respond to government documents, syllabi and curricula; and participate in major policy initiatives.  ALEA sees itself as having an important proactive role with but one purpose: to further the learning and use of literacy.
