The 2010 ALEA/TATE State Conference, Connecting through Literacy & Literature, will be held on Friday and Saturday, 16th and 17th April, at the Launceston Tramshed Function Centre.

This year’s Conference showcases a broad range of authors and speakers from across various disciplines and the arts who will explore the connections between literacy, literature and other curriculum areas.

The Conference program will begin on Friday evening from 5.45 pm onwards with Registration and nibbles. Academy Award ® winning writer and director, Adam Elliot, will be officially opening the Conference at 7.00 pm and then will chair a forum of four presenters, addressing the conference title, Connecting through Literacy & Literature. Drinks and nibbles will be available after the forum.

For early risers the Saturday program will commence with an optional Literary Breakfast at the Hotel Grand Chancellor featuring Andy Griffiths and J C Burke. The main program will be launched with a plenary address by Peter O’Connor (National Co-ordinator for Arts and Drama, New Zealand), followed by a large number of concurrent workshops. Presenters will include: Doug McLeod, Peter O’Connor, Paul Swan, Thelma Pursoe, Andy Griffiths, J C Bourke, James Maloney, Bill Simon, Karen Yager, Marj Colvill, Annette Moult and Rodney Martin.

Prior to the Conference proper, there will be three separate Pre-conference Workshops on the afternoon of Friday 16th. These will be presented by best-selling authors Andy Griffiths and J.C. Bourke, and also by Peter O’Connor. The Pre-conference Workshops are open to all but are additional to the main program.

The Launceston Conference Committee has worked hard to put together this outstanding program which provides great opportunities for entertaining and timely professional learning for all teachers of English and literacy. See the flyer for detailed Conference information and registration details for all events.
