Drama Rich Pedagogy for Literacy Learning

A picture book is not just a book, it is a world shaped by roles, situations, mood, movement and tension. Using the Drama Elements, Laban Eight Working Actions and Drama-Based Pedagogies we can make books live! Drama incorporates artistic and creative processes to deepen and enhance learning experiences and as such, this workshop will offer a range of strategies with meaning-making as the core and motivator. Through dialogic, embodied and experiential action, we will learn to foster creative dispositions and imaginations. Drama processes can enhance children’s already rich imaginations by giving them permission to wonder what could be different/what might have been/what could be. This workshop promotes art-rich pedagogical practice.

Making Meaning Through Connection: Eight-Page Books for Multilingual and Multimodal Literacy

The session will demonstrate practical classroom strategies for Years 3–6, including creating translanguaging spaces, using multilingual mentor texts, positioning students as cultural researchers, and supporting students to compose identity texts that connect home, school and community knowledge.
